Clear Overpopulation Need!

We all, have people come to us with numbers and statistics, making all kinds of claims about population. But, this blog is going to simply stay at a logic level, there is no need for current statistics if we can simply ground population concepts as true or false. If we know the concept that is true than we know the statistics will eventually follow, given nothing out of the ordinary happens, like an asteroid hitting the planet.

The Understanding of Overpopulation
What does it all mean, what is this "Overpopulation" people speak of? Well Lets just look at an example outside the human species; deer, we perhaps have heard stories of the overpopulation they forgo. Because the deer population is above that needed to sustain human life and the standard of living for the deer begins to drop due to a drop in food supply, hunters are dispatched to kill the deer and improve the species' overall standard of living. It is quite amazing how despite the fact a deer's parents and siblings are starving due to a lack of food, they still reproduce. It is amazing to think that qualified species, after so many millions of years of evolution, turn out to be the ones that continue to reproduce even after the surroundings have changed. Even though, looking back at evolution, we could conclude population growth is always good for the species; one can still say overpopulation is not such a good thing.

How are Humans any Different
Are humans any different from other animals? This is a question that is thrown about quite a lot. I suppose one could simply say we are only the next evolutionary step. But, clearly to some that step sure seems rather big. So, what is the Difference? Well, the biggest argument is technology, clearly our use of tools surmounts the throwing of rocks. There is one other thing that is tied to our extremely advanced use of tools, that is the ability to chose or determine a specialization. Other animals are stuck with whatever specialization they were born into for all of there existence.

The Importance of Specialization and Skills
Humans have created more specialized positions or jobs for themselves in the past one thousand years than any other species known about by humans. Now, that may take some data to back up, but I am pretty sure any logical being would not need too much data to know this is true. Think about it, when was the last time any animal started doing something new, if they did it was all over the news because that is very rare.
Humans have come to rely on this growth in things or services available to them. This requires a growth in Specializations. The key to this growth is clearly skills. Knowledge may help initially in the production but the skill is needed to fully understand the new service that will be provided. If the population of a skilled species were to decline than the level of intellectual ability of that species will also decline. Thus, making it more difficult for such a species to do things like stop an asteroid from hitting the planet.
